Jimmy Eat World @ The Forum - 23/6/2011

Jimmy Eat World show that this is a lot more than just a warm-up before Glastonbury & the Foo Fighters support slot by playing a unique setlist showcasing songs that have never before been performed live. They make up for their late arrival opening with ‘a table for glasses’ as they drift into ’lucky denver mint’ and continue by pouring out 1999’s Clarity from front to back in its entirety including the 16 minute closing track ‘goodbye sky harbour’

After a well earned break their sound is flooding back out of the PA as they storm through all of 2001’s ‘Bleed American’ at lightning speed, churning out anthems such as ‘the middle’ and crowd pleaser ‘sweetness’ putting all 2000 attendee’s in high spirits. Jimmy Eat World are on form tonight and are more than living up to expectations with their signature sound being replicated identically to their studio releases with a combination of a great sound-engineer and Courtney Marie Andrews (guest vocals on 2010’s Invented) playing keyboards and singing backing vocals.

After the emotional ‘hear you me’ and other highlights such as ‘cautioners’ the promised run through of Clarity and Bleed American is up, but its still missing something and the house lights are still off.  A murmur of ‘four more songs’ is looming around the forum, showing just how the internet can ruin the surprises that lurk inside a bands touring setlist, let alone a one off show. Jimmy Eat World break into an encore of ‘my best theory’ followed by the largest scream ever heard at The Forum as opening bars of ‘work’ are plucked out. They conclude with ‘pain’ leaving the venue in awe showing that even 10 years after the release of ‘Bleed American’ - the album that brought about exponential sucess, they can maintain and build greatly on what they achvieved and I hope they live up to this in the years that follow on from tonight.
